COVER: Sleeping With Sirens- “Iris” (Goo Goo Dolls)

Not a Sleeping With Sirens fan, really, but Kellin Quinn has a pretty cool voice. And this will always be a great song.

Liz Works Concerts: Drake - Club Paradise Tour @ First Niagara Pavilion (5/26/12)

As far as I’m concerned, summer officially began today.

Not only was it roughly 90 degrees and mostly sunny, we finally hit the all-important mark of our first show of the year out at the Pavilion. I have many a fond memory of that place from last year, and while most people associate things like beaches and sunny weather and pool parties with summer, I find myself more inclined to think about trekking across hot parking lots, sweating profusely while wearing an all black uniform, and the smell of exhaust from giant tractor trailers and tour busses. And loving every minute of it. Despite my excitement beforehand, it wasn’t until I actually got there today and found myself standing backstage, watching buses pull in and crew mill around that it really clicked. We. Are. BACK IN BUSINESS.

Liz Works Concerts: Avett Bros. @ Stage AE 5/20/12

I haven’t done one of these in for-fucking-ever. I don’t know why, I just kind of dropped off of them for the winter. It’s not that I haven’t been working/attending shows, just not as many, and the ones I have been haven’t been as interesting. BUT, since it’s summer and therefore concert season again, I feel like I should start writing these again, if only so I can look back and laugh later.

MUSIC VILLAINS INTERVIEW: Tyler Carter (Part 1) (Part 2)

Music Villains sat down with Tyler Carter for a bit this past weekend to chat about his beginnings as a solo artist, appreciation for fans, the way to his heart, as well as many other topics including the discussion of a possible new band.

And here is the interview by the way.

I should probably start using this account again huh. I’ve been hiding over on my sketch blog instead lately.

Tour Preview: Cassadee Pope

If you’ve ever seen a Hey Monday show (or even heard one of their songs), you may know them as an energetic pop rock act with a killer frontwoman that have toured with the likes of Fall Out Boy, All Time Low, and We The Kings, just to name a few.

However, for the time being, the band is taking a bit of a break. That isn’t stopping vocalist Cassadee Pope from making music, though. Not only has she been busily writing songs of her own (such as, “My Best Friend Hates You” in the video above), but she’s recently begun her first solo acoustic tour. “I’m one of those people that gets miserable if I’m not stressed out or busy,” Cassadee told PropertyOfZack in a recent interview. “Half of the reason why I jumped into everything so quickly was because I was just sick of sitting around. I have these goals that haunt me and I can’t get them out of my brain until I’m working towards them.”

The tour kicked off at the end of January with a few west coast dates (one of which featured an appearance from Yellowcard’s Ryan Key), and so far Cass has been using a setlist consisting of roughly half Hey Monday songs, and the other half her own solo material, with a few fan requests thrown in each night. Support comes from Stephen Jerzak, Justin Young, and Darling Parade, while Cassadee is performing with a sort of full acoustic band, consisting of a guitarist, acoustic bassist, and percussionist, as well as herself on guitar. These shows are undoubtedly much more intimate and personal than a Hey Monday concert, and allow Cass not only a whole new way to show off her voice and musicianship, but more of a chance to connect and interact with fans in the audience. “Playing shows is my favorite part of what I do,” Cass said to POZ. “I know it’s not going to be this big tour with thousands of people, but I don’t really care. Our core fans will be there, but I know this transition isn’t going to be easy or happen overnight, but I’m willing to put in the sweat and tears to get there. I couldn’t be more excited about this tour.”

The tour took a short break after the west coast dates, and is picking back up again on February 11th for a leg on the other side of the country, starting in Chicago and going up and down the east coast, and concluding in Cass’s home state of Florida. Here are the remainder of the dates; Music Villains will be definitely be there (in Pittsburgh, specifically), and we’re really psyched to see this new side of Ms. Pope. You should be too. Still hunting for a Mayday/WTK ticket…

Pittsburgh. March 3rd. Seriously, if anyone has an extra that they’re willing to sell (preferably at a reasonable price), lemme know.

(I still can’t believe that show sold out like, 3 hours before I went to get tickets. Like, seriously life?)
